Ah, Spring!
The exact astronomical opposite of the Fall Equinox occurred this week: Spring has arrived! And, the exact spiritual opposite of the fall doldrums (see That Fall Feeling) is here too. Spring puts that “spring” in your step!
What is it about Spring? It’s not the flowers blooming. Floral Spring arrives early in southern Delaware.
I first saw the beginnings of Spring over a month ago on February 16th with these tiny beauties in the grass across the street:
Here’s a cheery cherry tree on February 24th, four weeks ago:
And daffodils the next day:
Pretty, right? Yes, all the flowers made me smile, but they didn’t stir my heart.
But my heart stirred this week. What is it? What ancestral cave man instinct kicks in? What causes it, that lighthearted, “I can do anything” feeling that anything is possible? The sudden warmth? Dunno, because as I write this it’s 29 degrees. Is it the extra light with the sun rising earlier? I don’t think so because I didn’t feel anything right after the change to daylight savings time. Maybe the angle of the sun? More direct sunlight? Could be.
But there it was anyway. The exhilaration!
I don’t know, but I wish I could bottle it. I’d be a gazillionaire!
They say that in Spring a young man’s heart turns to love, but I’m not the only one feeling my spring oats. Here’s mommy and daddy mallard in the pond around the corner. I’m thinking that the pitter-patter of little webbed feet can’t be too far off! You go, daddy mallard!

Good read, Chuck But the plant life does have a lot to do with the amount of daylight, not Temperature, Don’t get the Sun,s rotation mixed up with daylight saving time.
