This issue of Random Beach Thoughts marks its second anniversary. My sincere thanks to each of you for subscribing. As crazy as it might seem, often the Monday before my Thursday (self-imposed) publication date, I have no idea what I will write about. But somehow, I’ve been able to get each week’s edition out on time.
So, thanks again for subscribing. I truly appreciate your support!

Well, another summer season has ended here on Delmarva. For me it’s a bittersweet time. I enjoy the summer crowd showing up around Memorial Day, but by Labor Day I’m kinda glad to see them leave.
I’m not as militantly against the visitors as some of my boardwalk friends are; the visitors are important to the local economy and many of the stores and restaurants I like wouldn’t exist without them. But I do see my friends’ point: they drive like idiots, clog the streets, make shopping at the Giant supermarket impossible… well, you get the idea.
And let’s not ignore the varied and often whacky sights the visitors provide the 9:59 Club while we’re sitting on the boardwalk each morning. The exhausted-looking mom pushing a three-seat stroller with “Irish triplets” (ages 3 months, 14 months and 2 years). The 80-year-old slightly built man wearing a skimpy speedo. The teenagers and 20-somethings with hair that replicates that of a parrot. The cute female lifeguards. Kids riding those crazy one-wheeled skateboard thingies. The three-year-old Evil Knievel boy riding a scooter.
There’s a lot to see on the beach and boardwalk, most of it good.
People paint rocks and shells and leave them in random places just to make others smile.
The Zumba women doing their daily routines.
Amazing creatures that make unusual or rare appearances.
The most beautiful sunrises anywhere.
And, of course, little old “us.”
Next, we’ll have fall and its own special impact on the beach. That’s the one thing that’s great about beaches. Every day brings something new. They’re never boring.
And I love it!
