Over the last 10 years or so, the corporate media has covered up or refuted many stories that turned out to be true. At the time these stories were dismissed as “conspiracy theories.”
If we had a true, professional, curious, and journalistic corporate media, these theories wouldn’t be dismissed out of hand, but would be investigated by those interested in the truth. But that’s not the way things work in our hyper-partisan environment today.
As you read the various conspiracy theories below, think first of how they were portrayed in the corporate media and how those declaring them were labeled as kooks, deniers, extremists, etc. Then count all the stories from the corporate media you read telling you how badly they misreported these stories. That number is zero because the corporate media just doesn’t acknowledge or apologize for their screwups.
The 2024 Election
NBC News ran this headline in October 2023:
Hmmmmm. Isn’t it interesting that something discussed by one side is automatically labeled as a conspiracy theory. When was the last time you read a story that began “Democrats float a quiet conspiracy theory…?”
Now we all know what happened with Mr. Biden. The circumstances surrounding his dropping out of the presidential race were a bit different than what was floated in October of ’23, but the story was the same.
Joe Biden’s Health
Politicians and the corporate media continually covered for Biden by claiming he was fine, just fine. We all watched him fall, confuse his words, talk to dead people, and, in general, reveal his inability to handle presidential tasks. When some claimed that he was not mentally fit, they said that we were seeing “cheap fakes.” Politicians and media pundits said some pretty dishonest things:
Joe Scarborough, MSNBC: “This version of Biden intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second.”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told CNN that Biden was so strong and vibrant, “I can’t even keep up with him.” That’s a pretty low bar.
Nancy Pelosi told MSNBC: “He has vision, he has knowledge, he has judgement and strategic thinking.”
Senator Chris Coons of Delaware told ABC: “There’s nothing to these challenges, these suggestions that somehow he’s not sharp and he’s not capable.”
Then, the debate happened.
Here’s Chuck Schumer before (per C-Span): “Schumer says Biden’s mental acuity is ‘great,’ calls reports of decline ‘right-wing propaganda’”
Still in denial and not able to admit his dishonesty, here’s Schumer on NBC's "Meet the Press," January 5, 2025. When asked to respond to "Americans who feel as though you and other top Democrats misled them" regarding Biden's condition, Schumer replied: "Look, we didn't." Right.
And, this just in: Former NBC anchor Brian Williams has slammed the mainstream media for their propping up of Joe Biden in the buildup to the election. Wait a minute. Aren’t you part of the mainstream media Brian?
Covid
Covid is probably the megillah of conspiracy theories. Why? I believe that there were so many attempts by senior government officials and the corporate media to silence any dissent and that average folks believed that where there’s smoke there’s fire. Why else would prominent, Harvard- and Stanford-educated medical scientists be blocked from Facebook and banned from Twitter? Why would anyone questioning the efficacy of vaccines be silenced?
Here's a few facts that validates the conspiracy theories that were prevalent five years ago:
We were told to keep 6 feet apart. There’s no science to support that. In a congressional appearance, infectious-disease expert Anthony S. Fauci characterized the recommendation as “an empiric decision that wasn’t based on data.”
Masks do not effectively stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Most studies showed no correlation between COVID-19 outbreaks in schools and masking. After vehemently denying that masks were just political theater, Dr. Fauci eventually admitted that he was only wearing a mask not to “give mixed signals.”
The vaccine is not safe and it doesn’t prevent transmission. Developer of the mRNA vaccine technology Dr. Robert Malone was permanently suspended from Twitter for demonstrating skepticism about the Covid-19 vaccines’ safety and effectiveness.
COVID lockdowns had no scientific grounding. Remember “15 Days to Slow the Spread?” Dr. Deborah Birx admitted: “No sooner had we convinced the Trump administration to implement our version of a two-week shutdown than I was trying to figure out how to extend it.”
Natural immunity applies to COVID-19, like any other virus. Per The Lancet, a world-renowned U.K. medical journal: “The level of protection afforded by previous infection is at least as high, if not higher than that provided by two-dose vaccination.”
Transnational Gangs
Aurora City, Colorado Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky warned that gang members had taken over apartment complexes in the area. Video later showed armed men walking through an Aurora apartment building with guns drawn and entering an apartment after knocking on the door.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis’ office called the “purported invasion is largely a feature of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination.” The media also pushed back on the concerns after the warnings were amplified, alluding to concerns as “rumors” and accused them of making “false claims” about the situation.
ABC News correspondent Martha Raddatz pushed back on the story, telling Vice President-elect JD Vance that the “incidents were limited to a handful of apartment complexes.”
“Martha, do you hear yourself?” Vance responded. “Only ‘a handful of apartment complexes’ in America were taken over by Venezuelan gangs…and not [because of the] open border?”
It is now reported that members of Tren de Aragua are active in at least 19 states across the country.
How about these other conspiracy theories that came true:
The Steele Dossier
FEMA slow walked assistance to political opponents
Facebook and Twitter along with other tech colluded with government to silence critics
Russia collusion
Hunter Laptop

These are just a few of the real stories that the corporate media could have reported.
So, why do conspiracy theories exist at all? Secrecy and the lack of clarity of information. When the President’s administration insists that the President is mentally fit, and average people can see that that’s not true, a conspiracy about officials covering up the President’s health is born.
When you’re told that you’re racist for suggesting that Covid came from China, you know that they’re blowing smoke because it’s so obvious that it did:

Conspiracy theories follow Occam’s Razor: the simplest answer to a question is most likely the correct one.
It makes one wonder: why should we ever trust these people, ever again?
Now if we could only get our leaders and the corporate media to see that.
